Certified Medical Coder
Are you detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about helping others behind the scenes? BYU Health Services is seeking a skilled Certified Medical Coder to join our Business Office team and play a vital role in ensuring accurate and timely billing for the care we provide to students, missionaries, and employees. As a Medical Coder, you’ll be responsible for coding procedures, working with insurance claims, and providing friendly and knowledgeable customer service. Certified Medical Coder

As a Medical Coder, you’ll be responsible for coding procedures, working with insurance claims, and providing friendly and knowledgeable customer service. What You’ll Do In This Position
Coding/Billing
- Responsible to ensure all Accounts Receivable data is correct in the computer for entire BYU Health Services, which includes all student, missionary and employee visit charges. This requires reviewing patient charts for accurate coding and charges for procedures, equipment, etc.
- Filing 3rd party insurance claims and working with insurance companies on any claim problems
- Customer service via walk-ins, phone, and email. Answering questions regarding billing, insurance claims, general 3rd party insurance information, and general Health Center information
- Stay current on Continuing Education credits in order to renew bi-annual AACP certification
- Entering 3rd party insurance payments
- Updating Business Office Training Manual as needed
What qualifies you for this role:
- 1-3 years working experience in a Medical Office processing 3rd party insurance claims, coding and billing, and insurance payment entry
- Medical Coding and/or billing certification
- 3-5 years’ experience processing medical claims for 3rd party insurance
- Accounting knowledge; account coding; math skills; numerical accuracy; computer expertise in Word, medical software programs, and Excel; accounts receivable entries; working knowledge of ICD-10-CM (medical diagnoses billing codes) and CPT codes (medical billing procedures); medical terminology; and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
