Editorial PR Coordinator
Do you enjoy storytelling working in a dynamic setting? This job is ideal for an individual who wants PR agency experience in a university setting. We are looking for an organized, self-driven individual to coordinate strategy, work with clients and lead the External Relations editorial team for the College of Fine Arts and Communications.
Company Description: The award-winning College of Fine Arts and Communications’ External Relations team writes all of the event press releases, assists in marketing production, creates and supports all websites, works on campaigns relating to the college and university and assists the college’s dean. The team also manages and oversees the college’s social media pages, as well as the School of Communications, Department of Dance, Department of Theatre and Media Arts and School of Music social media accounts.

What You’ll Do In This Position
- Manage student writers/editors in the External Relations office
- Assist the editorial team with projects such as news releases and feature stories for the college’s academic units
- Edit all content produced by the editorial team
- Pitch college stories to university entities, specifically University Communications and BYU Magazine
- Track coverage (media clips/placements) across local and national news platforms and outlets
- Help with creating monthly reports to track analytics
- Participate in alumni outreach and donor relations
- Oversee the creation and distribution of monthly newsletters for faculty, staff, students and alumni
- Assist in developing and carrying out strategies to promote events, performances and units within the college
- Coordinate on college campaigns focused on identity (Arts@BYU), experiential learning (#ExperienceCFAC) and faith-based creation (Faith Works)
- Aid the Assistant Dean in developing coordination, communication and information processes between the college and its internal units
- Assist with managing and messaging for communication with key publics
Required
- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Education/Experience
- Related Experience
- PR or journalism writing and editing experience
- Well-developed organizational, communication and writing skills
- Project management skills: ability to forecast, assign projects, create deadlines, and follow up
- Ability to work well with others and feel comfortable speaking in front of a group
- Excellent time management
- Strong attention to detail
- Proficient in database and spreadsheet software (Word, Excel, Google Drive)
- History of meeting deadlines
- Ability to work with people at all levels of an organization
- Management experience
- Familiarity with Brightspot or other web publishing platform
- Experience with project management systems such as Basecamp or Slack
- Knowledge of AP style
- Knowledge of email newsletter programs, specifically MailChimp
- Experience with design programs, specifically Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
- Longevity preferred - commitment of at least two semesters (8-12 months)
