Music Dance Theatre Accompanist
Job Overview
Seeking a talented pianist to provide accompaniment for voice and theatre classes, assist MDT students in refining musical interpretation, and support performances. This role requires strong sight-reading, improvisation, and transposition skills, along with the ability to accompany soloists, ensembles, and guest artists at various events. Additional responsibilities include music directing university musicals, recording digital accompaniment tracks for rehearsals, and working closely with students and faculty in classes, rehearsals, and masterclasses. The ideal candidate is a versatile musician with excellent collaboration skills and a passion for enhancing student learning and performances.
What You’ll Do In This Position
Required: Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience in the professional Musical Theatre business
Preferred: 20 years of experience in the Musical Theatre business.

What You’ll Do In This Position
- Accompany Voice and Theatre Classes: Play warm-up exercises and support students with accompaniments to enhance their performances.
- Coach MDT Students: Provide one-on-one coaching to help students interpret music properly.
- Sight Read & Improvise: Read and play music quickly, improvise, arrange, and transpose music as needed.
- Accompany Soloists & Groups: Perform at public events, both daytime and evening, throughout the year.
- Support Guest Artists & Masterclasses: Accompany guest artists and assist in masterclasses.
- Music Direct Musicals: Accompany and/or music direct university musicals as needed.
- Collaborate with Students and Faculty: Work well with students and faculty in classes, rehearsals and performances.
- Record Accompaniment Tracks: Record accompaniment music for student rehearsals and make it available digitally.
Required: Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience in the professional Musical Theatre business
Preferred: 20 years of experience in the Musical Theatre business.
