Job Description
Program Advisor & Graduate Program Manager, Master of Information Systems Management
As a vital part of the Information Systems Department, the MISM Program Advisor manages the Master of Information Systems Management (MISM) graduate program, provides comprehensive advising to graduate students, assists with graduate admissions, and supports the department with data requests, scheduling, registration, student recruiting, and scholarships. This role collaborates with others at BYU Marriott School of Business to develop leaders of faith, intellect, and character. This is a full-time on-site position that reports to the Department Chair and is an on-site full-time exempt position.
What you’ll do in this position:
- Advise first and second year MISM students on their course of study, graduation requirements, and academic planning
- Verify student applications to graduate studies including endorsement, Honor code agreement, and integrated program applications
- Manage and verify compliance of internship opportunities, providing orientation and ensuring company approval in university systems
- Orient students to self-directed classes, verify contracts, and manage registration and grade submission
- Plan and conduct MISM Orientation for approximately 100 students per year
- Liaise with graduate studies on behalf of MISM and the department to ensure accurate information sharing
- Participate in curriculum changes and implementation, ensuring learning outcomes, MISM tracks, and elective lists are up to date
- Manage the MISM admissions process for approximately 200 applicants annually, preparing data and tracking decisions
- Guide new students in creating initial graduation plans and updating major codes to reflect program admission
- Process faculty requests related to graduate enrollment and other student information
- Create and manage MISM registration envelopes, including student enrollments and class scheduling
- Develop and execute recruitment events such as Major Fairs, Marriott Night, and information sessions
- Review scholarship applications and support the department scholarship committee
- Maintain student files and update information in the Marriott School database
- Coordinate with faculty to ensure graduate class sizes can accommodate student needs
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- Bachelor's degree
- 3 years of academic counseling/advising experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong commitment to the AIMS of Brigham Young University and the Vision, Mission, and Values of BYU Marriott
- Ability to work with and counsel a diverse student body
- Ability to cope with stress
- Strong knowledge of and proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel)
- Strong and proactive organizational skills with ability to work accurately and independently under pressure
- Ability to multi-task and process numerous assignments simultaneously
- Excellent public relations, interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred
- Master's degree
- 1 year academic counseling/advising experience or advisement certification (or equivalent graduate coursework as defined by supervisor) and 3 years of advisement experience
Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications
Strong understanding of academic advising principles and university policies with ability to counsel diverse student populations
Excellent organizational abilities with proven capacity to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Exceptional attention to detail when managing student records, academic plans, and graduation requirements
Strong written and verbal communication skills for student advising and interdepartmental coordination
Demonstrated problem-solving abilities to help students navigate academic challenges
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and student information systems for tracking student data
Experience with event planning and execution for academic recruitment and orientations
Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive student information
Demonstrated commitment to student success and professional development
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment while adapting to changing priorities
