JOB SUMMARY
The FSQA Manager will be responsible for maintaining the Food Safety and Quality Management Systems for 3-4 BNG site(s) in the Salem OR area. The FSQA Manager will promote customer satisfaction and ensure compliance with FDA and USDA regulations as well as adherence to FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and Global Food Safety Initiative (GSFI) Standards (as applicable). Key emphasis on the management of facilities quality, food safety, AAFCO, GMP’s, SOP’s, SSOP’s, HACCP/HARPC and customer complaint resolution.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES· Manages all activities related to food safety, product quality, microbiological performance criteria, finished products, HACCP/HARPC systems, government regulatory compliance (including FDA, APHIS, USDA), internal and external inspection criteria, and customer compliant investigation and response.
· Responsible for the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the quality and food safety system to include (but not limited to): FSMA compliance, food safety fundamentals, food safety plans, and food quality plans.
· Ensure that the integrity of the food safety, quality and regulatory system is maintained at all times. Review’s paperwork for accuracy and verification.
· Works with management and other required personnel in formulating, establishing, and enforcing corporate policies, procedures, and objectives related to the Quality and Food Safety systems.
· Responsible for the review and comprehension of technical and regulatory publications, articles, and abstracts to stay current with all technical and regulatory developments in the industry.
· Performs audits of manufacturing and warehouse locations at facility, along with food defense
· Administers hold and release policies
· Responsible for the successful completion of all food safety and quality regulatory certification audits.
· Maintain, review, and audit effective HACCP/HARPC, GMP and GFSI programs.
· Responsible for maintenance of an effective sanitation program.
· Responsible for inspecting raw materials/COAs and finished products documentation to ensure they meet specified standards as well as reviewing their handling and processing for compliance with company standards.
· Ability to refine current plant measurement techniques, micro laboratory testing procedures, record keeping, and data analysis.
· Development and training of personnel on all food safety, quality and sanitation procedures.
· Maintain certification and paperwork for exports, FDA, USDA, APHIS, GFIS and state regulatory bodies.
· Support Research and Development Team with new and/or improved product processes and to ensure product compliance with AAFCO, FDA, APHIS, USDA, etc.
· Knowledgeable of all AAFCO requirements for pet food.
· Other special projects and duties as assigned by the General Manager and Director of FSQAS.
· Manages the quality staff and day-to-day activities.
· Multi-site management experience preferred.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills (bi-lingual preferred).
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Experience writing and managing food safety plans.
· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
· Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Experience in USDA Meat Processing, Ready to eat or high-risk process industry preferred.
· HACCP certified
· SQF Practitioner or GFSI experience a plus
· PCQI certified or willing to become certified within 1 year of employment.
