We are currently looking for a Director, IT Portfolio Management to join our growing team! In this role, you will oversee Brightspeed’s strategic management, prioritization, and execution of the organization’s IT Growth & Efficiency (G&E) portfolio. You will lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex IT programs and projects, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively, risks are mitigated, and key deliverables are met on time and within budget. You will also manage the Program Increment (PI) Sprint Planning process within an Agile environment, drive cross-functional teams towards successful sprint outcomes and ensuring continuous improvement in Agile delivery practices. You will collaborate closely with senior leadership, IT teams, business stakeholders, and external partners to foster transparency, optimize value delivery, and maximize return on investment in IT initiatives.
As Director, IT Portfolio Management, your duties and responsibilities will include:
IT Portfolio Management:
- Lead the governance, oversight, and prioritization of the IT G&E portfolio, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives and digital transformation goals
- Collaborate with senior leadership to establish portfolio priorities and allocate resources effectively across multiple programs and projects
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine portfolio management processes, ensuring effective tracking, reporting, and communication of project statuses, risks, and financial performance
- Establish portfolio risk management frameworks, proactively identifying and mitigating risks that may impact project success or alignment with business needs
- Ensure portfolio initiatives comply with organizational standards, policies, and best practices
Program Increment (PI) Sprint Planning:
- Lead and coordinate Program Increment (PI) planning sessions within the Agile framework, ensuring cross-functional teams are aligned on goals, deliverables, and timelines
- Facilitate the prioritization and planning of features, epics, and user stories to ensure timely and efficient delivery during each PI cycle
- Work with Product Owners and business stakeholders to refine and clarify requirements, establish sprint goals, and optimize team capacity
- Foster an environment of collaboration and continuous improvement, implementing feedback loops to enhance sprint planning processes and improve team performance
- Oversee the execution of PI sprints, ensuring teams manage dependencies and meet milestones
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team of portfolio managers and project managers, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and results-driven performance
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between IT, business, and product teams to drive alignment and ensure shared understanding of objectives and deliverables
- Develop training programs and workshops to upskill teams in Agile methodologies, PI planning, and IT portfolio management best practices
- Establish performance metrics and KPIs to measure the success of portfolio management processes, sprint outcomes, and overall project health
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for senior business leaders, ensuring alignment between IT delivery and business strategy
- Prepare and present portfolio status reports, financial analysis, and risk assessments to senior management, providing insights on portfolio health and strategic alignment
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, ensuring clear expectations and timely feedback on sprint progress, challenges, and adjustments
- Drive transparency and accountability through regular updates, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and PI planning sessions
Continuous Improvement & Best Practices:
- Champion the adoption of best practices in IT portfolio management and Agile delivery methodologies
- Continuously assess and improve portfolio management tools, processes, and techniques to enhance productivity, collaboration, and decision-making
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, bringing innovative ideas to the organization and contributing to the evolution of the IT strategy
Financial & Resource Management:
- Oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation for IT portfolio initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered within financial constraints
- Ensure resource requirements for PI sprints are properly forecasted and that the necessary skill sets are available to meet sprint objectives
- Manage the procurement and vendor relationship process as needed to ensure external resources align with project goals
WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, SAFe, Scrum Master) preferred
- 8 years of experience in IT portfolio management, project management, and/or Agile delivery, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record in managing large-scale IT portfolios, especially in Agile / SAFe
- Expertise in leading Program Increment (PI) planning and sprint management, with strong knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe)
- Telecommunications industry experience
- Deep understanding of portfolio management frameworks, Agile practices, and IT governance
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels
