The Peer Recovery Supporter’s role is to provide hope and support for others in recovery from
a substance use disorder. They will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to
recovering individuals to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Peer
Recovery Supporter must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and
to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships.

Peer Recovery Supporter Job Responsibilities
- Maintain project logs, reports, and records in appropriate files and databases.
- Provide recovery education to individuals for every stage of change from pre-contemplation
- Provide a model for both people in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is
- Assist individuals to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths and areas of
recovery.
- Promote self-advocacy by assisting individuals in expressing their voice, needs, goals and
- Actively identify and support links to community resources that support the individual’s
- Link individuals to appropriate professional resources including, but not limited to, case
- Provide encouragement for opportunities to get involved in community-based activities.
- Identify barriers to full participation in community resources and developing strategies to
- Maintain contact by phone and/or email with recovering person to insure their ongoing
needed.
- Attend required meetings including individual and group supervision and quarterly inservice.
- Communicate needs of patient to the appropriate staff member.
- Co-facilitate evidence-based group therapy sessions, when necessary.
Peer Recovery Supporter Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be a Certified Peer Recovery Supporter; CDCA or higher preferred
