Thome PACE® serves Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties providing participants with a wide range of medical and supportive services in our Day Clinic located in Jackson, Michigan or in the comfort of their own homes. The Thome PACE team of healthcare professionals specialize in working with the senior community to help participants and their family members make positive healthcare decisions and receive the care they deserve.
Overview:
The Recreational Therapy Assistant, under the direct supervision of the Certified Recreational Therapist Specialist (CTRS), assists with recreational and therapeutic activities for participants at Thome PACE.
What you’ll do:
- Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of therapeutic activity programs to include group or individual recreational and social activities.
- Provides input into program plans to promote effective activity programming according to a participant’s abilities and preferences with Thome PACE Day Center daily flow of events and activities.
- Assists with community outings and special events for Thome PACE participants.
- Assists in developing a monthly calendar of events for participants.
- Maintains general order in the activities area, including daily clean up, routine supply inventory and ordering for the recreation department.
- Serves as a resource for staff.
- Plans and implements activities for dementia specific participants.
- Interviews and assessing participants as needed.
- Builds within the Center a sense of community and a warm social atmosphere in which participants are able to identify a support system.
- Demonstrates active participation in QI processes.
- Documents in the participant’s medical record as required by policy.
- Complete the PCA (Participant Care Aide) training.
- Assists in providing and/or maintaining optimal physical and emotional comforts to participants at the day center, in the participant’s home, and community setting.
- Provides basic ADL care to assigned participants.
- Meet a standardized set of competencies for the specific position description established by Thome PACE and approved by CMS before working independently.

What it takes:
- Minimum of one-year experience working with frail and elderly.
- CPR certification
- Previous activity programming experience is preferred.
