Full-Time Educational Assistant - Interventionist

This is a full-time position that does include benefits. Experience with school-age students preferred. Responsibilities include the following:


  • Coordinates universal screener testing three times per year
  • Maintaines paperwork for ILPD, small groups, and intervention fidelity checks
  • Runs small groups
  • Provides support and training to new EAs who participate in small groups
  • Morning and afternoon duties

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS


  • High school diploma including one of the following:
  • An associate’s degree.
  • 48 semester hours of college credit from an accredited institution
  • Documentation verifying a passing score on the paraprofessional assessment test
  • Proficient with technology appropriate for the position.
  • Proficient in grammar skills.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL


To assist teachers in conducting intensified learning experiences for students; to provide a variety of supportive tasks to improve instruction; to perform related work as required so that each child may be provided with educational opportunities to maximize learning.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Assists instructional personnel with the development and presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises.
  • Tutors students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning activity.
  • Oversees and supervises students during classroom activities, in library, in lunchroom, on playground, on field trips, and during emergency drills.
  • Assists in the development of instructional materials.
  • Performs regular clerical duties such as filing, typing, or duplicating materials.
  • Maintains student records and files.
  • Operates and cares for instructional media, office machines, and equipment used for instructional purposes.
  • Maintains discipline in the absence of the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
  • Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.
  • Helps students with their clothing.
  • Assists with lunch, snack, and clean-up routines.
  • Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  • Participates in inservice training programs as assigned.
  • Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
  • Obtains the proper drivers license for student transportation purposes if requested.
  • Administers/performs medical procedures for which laypersons may be trained.
  • Performs such other duties as may reasonably be prescribed by the teacher, principal, or supervisor.

  • Verbal: Ability to understand meanings of words and the ideas associated with them.
  • Numerical: Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to move the hands easily and manipulate small objects with the fingers.
  • Form Perception: To make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures.
  • Color Discrimination: Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color.
