THE POSITION
This is a hybrid office position. Only candidates within a reasonable commute distance will be considered.
The Divisional Controller manages multiple accounting functions and operations such as general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue, asset, cost, and tax accounting. This includes overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes and reporting. The Divisional Controller assists the Controller in implementing accounting policies and procedures that adhere to financial and tax regulations and comply with GAAP standards. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of financial management within a services industry. The Divisional Controller must possess a process-focused mindset as well as a passion for collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal control systems to safeguard the agency’s assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collect, analyze, verify, and report financial information to document the organization’s financial performance and enable the executive team to make well-informed financial decisions.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement financial strategies that align with the agency's goals and objectives.
- Oversee preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.
- Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
- Track revenue and expenses, consolidate and analyze financial data, prepare special reports, maintain internal controls and other best practices, and report activity to ensure the company’s financial well-being.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and provide ongoing forecasting and variance analysis to support effective financial planning.
- Audit accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinate with outside auditors and provide needed information for the annual external audit.
- Analyze general ledger variances and suggest corrective action for management’s approval.
- Present recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
- Provide financial analysis with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
Experience and Skills:
- BA/BS degree in accounting or finance from an accredited university.
- 8 years of corporate accounting experience experience including completing financial closes and previous experience overseeing the work of other accounting professionals.
- Prior experience working in a services industry required. Marketing, PR, or advertising agency experience preferred.
- CPA license preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP and its implications.
- Previous experience supporting a multi-state employer required.
- Previous experience working in a multiple-company organization preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with internal team at all levels.
- Advanced level skills in Microsoft Excel. Must be able to use Excel to automate repetitive tasks, create sophisticated financial models, and streamline data analysis.
- Strong leadership skills and previous experience managing others.
