Part-time Pastor

Broad Creek Methodist Church (BCMC) is seeking a part-time pastor or part-time lay pastor/speaker to provide worship leadership and pastoral care to the BCMC congregation. BCMC is a small, independent community church located in Newport, NC, with an average Sunday morning worship attendance of 35-40 members. Key responsibilities include:

Worship Leadership:

• Prepare and deliver sermons based on biblical teachings.
• Lead Sunday morning worship service including prayers, hymns, and scripture readings.
• Lead/facilitate Christians in Conversations, a small Bible Study group, held on Wednesday evenings.
• Facilitate special worship services when planned (Christmas, Easter, etc.).
• Prepare bulletin in coordination with the Communications Director.

Pastoral Care:

• Conduct pastoral visits to members in their homes or hospitals, or delegate to laity if there is a pastoral conflict.
• Provide spiritual counseling and support to individuals and families.
• Officiate weddings, baptisms, and funerals as work schedule allows.
• Direct/Lead youth confirmation classes as work schedule allows.

Congregational Engagement:

• Visit new members and encourage their participation in church activities, or delegate to laity if there is a pastoral conflict.
• Participate in church committees and leadership meetings as needed.

Community Outreach:

• Empower and work with church members in local outreach activities aligned with the church's mission, and provide guidance in building relationships with community leaders and organizations.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a pastor or lay pastor/speaker.
• Strong preaching and teaching abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Commitment to the teachings and mission of the Methodist Church.

Important Considerations:

• Specific Schedule:The exact schedule will be determined by the Pastor and the Administrative Council based on the needs of the church and the commitments of the pastor.
• Collaboration:Pastor will collaborate with other staff member and church leaders.
• Leadership Expectations:Although part-time, the pastor will be expected to provide spiritual leadership and guidance and pastoral care to the congregation.

BCMC understands that the pastor may have a full-time job or be retired from a full-time job.
