What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant position at Broadway Veterinary Hospital?
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our growing hospital to provide exceptional care to our patients! You will work alongside other skilled Vet Assistants, Credentialed Veterinary Technicians and DVMs in the daily flow of the hospital. Position Skills:
- Assist DVMs with appointments, prepping patients for surgery and minor procedures, surgical assisting, and pro-actively set up for any procedures or diagnostic tests
- Restrain animals in a safe, efficient, and caring manner
- Obtain accurate vitals, obtain medical histories, and/or note any changes of patient’s condition to DVM
- Collect and prepare laboratory samples such as fecal, urine, and ear cytology's
- Care and maintenance of all medical equipment including laboratory machines, surgical packs, anesthesia machines, and any other tools that are essential to daily operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in common work areas
- High quality client communication on patient updates and questions
Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Knowledge of animal physiology and husbandry practices.
- Experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a similar role is preferred.
- Familiarity with animal restraint techniques to ensure safety for both staff and animals.
- Basic understanding of laboratory procedures related to veterinary medicine.
- A passion for working with animals, demonstrating empathy and compassion in all interactions.
- A passion for building client relationships and maintaining a drama free work environment
- Willingness to learn about various aspects of veterinary care, including critical care protocols.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 34 – 38 per week
