Subject: Developers and Instructors for Extending the Learning Course on Students with Disabilities: Anatomy of the New MA
Individualized Education Program
As part of the district’s support for educators to meet the requirements for MA DESE license renewal, two professional development offerings will be facilitated beginning as soon as possible through the end of the school year. These offerings will award:
15 PDPs related to students with disabilities.

Course 1:
Anatomy of the New MA Individualized Education Program (IEP) (15 PDPs)
This course will articulate the rationale for the new MA IEP and why DESE implemented the changes. The instructor will review, analyze, and highlight the important changes from the old form to the new form clearly delineating each section as it relates to a student’s disability. The instructor will guide participants through an actual IEP for a mock student and highlight the essential components based on each participant’s role in the IEP.
Course 2:
Through The Lens of An Administrator: Anatomy of the New MA Individualized Education Program (IEP) (15 PDPs)
This course will articulate the rationale for the new MA IEP and why DESE implemented the changes. The instructor will teach from the perspective of an administrator while reviewing, analyzing, and highlighting the important changes from the old form to the new form clearly delineating each section as it relates to a student’s disability. The instructor will guide administrators through an actual IEP for a mock student and highlight the essential components of the New IEP, as well as the role of an administrator in the process.
Participants will be able to:
-Understand their role and participation expectations in the IEP development.
-Identify the impact of a students’ disability on their learning in the following areas: academics, social/emotional, and
communication.
-Locate and implement accommodations as outlined in the new IEP.
-Compare the old service delivery grid with the new service delivery grid.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Teaching or administrator license from the MA DESE in Special Education
2. Successful experience working with Special Education students
3. Experience leading professional development or facilitating adult teams in professional learning capacities
4. Demonstrated skills in communication, organization, and team building
Responsibilities:
1. Design Extending the Learning Course for educators from different grade levels and content areas
2. Design Extending the Learning Course to be engaging and that provides for interaction and collaboration
3. Design Extending the Learning Course with an opportunity for teacher application of content
4. Meet with Director of Exceptional Learning and Director of Professional Growth and School Improvement to review course
materials and instructional plan and make edits as necessary
5. Deliver Extending the Learning Course to participants
6.Communicate with course participants and take attendance in Power School Professional Learning
7. At the completion of the course, update the registration status in Power School Professional Learning, to release the PD survey to
participants
Compensation: According to Contract – Up to 5 hours of prep time and 15 hours to deliver course.
