Description
This position reports directly to the Supervisor, Collection Development, but exercises independent decision making and judgment to provide professional consulting services to client libraries supporting identified customer needs and building market share for the company.
- Manages projects and provides assistance to client libraries involving the creation of internal and external customized selection lists that will increase sales by Brodart.
- Coordinates the collection development services of opening day collection and ongoing projects to include creating and monitoring of client budgets, preparation of project schedule, selection of appropriate materials and resources, and coordination of all assigned staff.
- Selects materials for customers and programs as needed.
- Supports the activities of the sales force by establishing and maintaining professional interfaces with prospects and customers by participating in sales calls and presentations.
- Assists with testing internal and customer-facing software.
- Travel to customer sites for profiling collection development services.
- Making presentations on behalf of the company at meetings, conferences and workshops.
- Keeping abreast of customer needs, trends in the field of librarianship and developments in the publishing industry.
- Assists with other department/division projects and in cross-functional problem-solving teams as required.
Qualifications
- Master's of Library Science, ALA-accredited preferred, with demonstrated knowledge of collection development and management of material selection.
- Experience in a public library or in a related field preferred.
- Experience and/or training in Project Management preferred.
- Proficiency with electronic databases, Internet resources and Microsoft Office suite programs (Excel, Access). Occasional travel to customer sites and conventions.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in library collections, systems, procedures, principles and methodology of contemporary collection development techniques and including familiarity with library ILS systems and ordering methods preferred.
- Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and balance competing assignments effectively.
- Ability and willingness to learn company computer systems.
- Ability and willingness to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including public speaking).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Normal office environment, close and distant vision, using hands and fingers to handle and feel, talk and hear, sitting, lifting up to 10 lbs. frequently. Standing and walking, lifting up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
