The Brompton bike was first designed by Andrew Ritchie in 1975 opposite the Brompton Oratory in South Kensington, hence the name. Since then, production has remained in London, and we’re now producing over 90,000 bikes a year, and recently just hit a huge milestone and sold our 1 millionth bike!
Brompton is the largest independent British bicycle manufacturer with a team of over 800 talented people, and we’re constantly growing. We specialise in designing and manufacturing high-quality folding bicycles for the urban market, and pride ourselves on building a genuinely sustainable and accountable business.

The Role
As we focus on our US expansion, you will lead our brand new store in Georgetown, Washington DC. You will hire a customer focus team and deliver the objectives for growth and development through a best-in-class customer experience within a flagship store environment. Accountable for all store results and operations you will have the drive to succeed and do so by creating a positive and innovative in-store atmosphere; leading by example to bring the brand customer journey to life.
What you’ll be responsible for:
- Cultivate a culture in store of genuine passion for the brand, encouraging team members to be brand ambassadors, educating consumers and taking ownership of the store.
- Connected to the city, strong interpersonal skills alongside breadth of contacts within local NYC communities and businesses.
- Track record of effective selling skills and ability to drive commercial outcomes.
- Lead the team on executing superior customer service and after sales experience to increase and retain customer loyalty.
- Ability to attain & track sales goals, top line revenue, profitability and inventory management.
- Strong event management skills working alongside marketing & PR teams for product launches, community rides and events.
- Ability to consistently introduce Brompton products to clients through hands on demonstrations.
- History of successfully leading and coaching a team, creating an inclusive and psychologically safe work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to utilise empathy to manage interpersonal relationships.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, commercial acumen and merchandising skills.
- Computer literacy encompassing strong familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to establish a strong brand presence and awareness, implement outstanding customer service, develop and retain talent, lead CRM strategies for higher ROI, and strong visual merchandising.
- Ability to read, interpret metrics and make decisions to proactively increase sales.
- Analytic approach to develop correct merchandising mix to maximize sales and exceed budgets.
Competencies
- Minimum five years' experience in retail management, with 3 years' experience as Store Manager in luxury retail environment.
- Full understanding of specialty retail, including business development, visual merchandising and store operations.
- Strong leadership, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Delegate responsibility and work to the staff.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills allowing for communication of the company’s goals and objectives.
- A positive, outgoing, high-energy personality that is entrepreneurial, who is sales focused and takes full ownership of the store’s business at all levels.
- A mentor and leader to staff and peers. Developing individual’s strengths and identifying opportunities.
- A trainer able to teach skills in customer service, selling, and operations.
- Market aware and commercially focused.
