Job Summary:
The Roof Bolter I operates machinery to install roof support bolts in the underground mine.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Drill bolt holes for testing and bolt preparation into roofs at specified distances from ribs or adjacent bolts.
- Pull down loose rock that cannot be supported.
- Position bolting machines and insert drill bits into chucks.
- Perform safety checks on equipment before operating.
- Perform tests to determine if methane gas is present.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Familiarity and general understanding of MSHA regulations· Operation and Control — Controlling operations of equipment or systems.· Operations Monitoring — Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.· Equipment Maintenance — Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.· Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.· Troubleshooting — Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.· Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.· Proficient in reading and speaking English
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- MSHA 5000-23 for Underground Coal
- 1 or more years in underground coal mine production
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 or more years in the coal mining industry
- 1 or more years as a Roof Bolter
Physical Abilities:
· Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.· Control Precision — The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.· Arm-Hand Steadiness — The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.· Extent Flexibility — The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.· Depth Perception — The ability to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from you, or to judge the distance between you and an object.· Oral Expression — The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
