Job Summary:
To provide support to the psychological, academic, and social development, as well as well-being, of students. To provide guidance and counseling services to students and their families so that students may succeed in all aspects of their lives.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist students to apply academic achievement strategies to promote student success.
- Assist students to learn skills to best manage emotions to build appropriate interpersonal skills.
- Assist students who present with academic, emotional, social or behavioral challenges.
- Provide every family with guidance and direction in pursuing all available and appropriate scholarship and support agencies.
- Consult with parents/guardians, teachers, support staff, administration and any local agencies which might be of assistance to the students.
- Provide parents/guardians with accurate, comprehensive and relevant information in an objective and caring manner.
- Assist parents/guardians in helping students set and achieve goals.
- Aid students in understanding the school environment and what is expected of them.
- Facilitate Social Emotional Learning, SEL, workshops/classes
- Support students in their understanding of the consequences of actions for self and others.
- Provide guidance and necessary resource to students in dealing with family crisis (e.g., separation, divorce, death, neglect and abuse, unemployment and alcoholism).
- Provide guidance and support to students to develop positive self-esteem.
- Provide career education activities for all students, including current, up-to-date career awareness and development materials.
- Provide individual parent counseling when necessary.
- Conduct parent workshops when necessary or requested.
- Keep accurate records of all counseling and guidance activities.
- Assist in the evaluation of student services programs, procedures and activities.
- Collaborate with other counselors and teaching staff to determine and to develop plans to address individual student’s needs
- Make appropriate referrals to community agencies when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and Director of Student Support.

Education and Experience:
- Masters Degree in School Counseling, or Related Fields.
- NYS School Counseling Certification
- Prior Experience in Guidance or School Counseling.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Expected Salary: $58,439to $79,857 (salary is commensurate with experience and education)
