Senior Manager, Operations – Queensbury or Potsdam, NY
Reporting to the Director-Operations, the incumbent will be responsible for directing and managing the activities of a group of employees engaged in the operation, maintenance and repair of a large group of hydroelectric generation facilities and associated equipment within the New York region.
More specific responsibilities include:
- Provide direction and leadership to a staff including supervisors, technical trades, operating staff, contractors and consultants and ensure that all personnel are following company approved Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) policies and procedures;
- Practice sound, approved HSSE principles and follow approved HSSE policies and procedures;
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory licenses, permits, and codes of operation and conduct;
- Ensure the development and implementation of short and long term strategies, work plans, and budgets to achieve desired objectives;
- Act as Emergency Action Plan Director for Dam Safety emergency actions including possessing knowledge of remedial dam safety emergency actions.
- Assist the operation and maintenance group in troubleshooting, testing and inspecting civil, mechanical and electrical equipment and facilities.
- Develop maintenance and operation procedures as necessary for safe efficient operation compliant with FERC principles.
- Coordinate effectively with support groups (compliance, land use, water management, technical, and remote operators) to effectively manage processes associated with operation and maintenance of facilities to which assigned.
- Manage through direct reports the availability, performance, safe and efficient operation of company facilities, generation equipment and systems;
- Be available for calls during power system disruptions to aid in problem solving and work with supervision to facilitate repairs;
- Effectively manage employee performance utilizing appropriate processes including establishing objectives, coaching and mentoring.
- Be knowledgeable with and execute provisions of Collective Bargaining Agreement(s).
- Interface with regulatory and non-governmental entities during inspections and site visits.
- Travel within the region is required.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical engineering or equivalent education and experience;
- At least seven (7) years of management experience in an operations or general management role;
- Knowledge of FERC Hydropower regulations and operation standards, National Electrical Safety Code and various industry standards such as OSHA and NFPA and knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations;
- Basic knowledge of power distribution including high and low voltage systems, wiring diagrams, schematics, etc; Familiarity with power station controls and test equipment.
- Experience with bus loading, and power flow from the generation station to the substation;
- Proven ability to lead, manage and develop people;
- Strong interpersonal and team building skills to collaborate effectively with peers in setting and accomplishing operational objectives;
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
- Action oriented with a drive for results;
- Excellent problem solving and technical skills;
- Ability to set priorities for multiple objectives;
- Experience with computerized maintenance systems and enterprise management systems (IFS), and intermediate skills with Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, Powerpoint).
Pay: $150k-170k/yr.
