Organizational Overview
The Stakeholder Relations Office (SRO) develops, implements, and assesses strategic internal and external communications plans and programs to advance the scientific mission and priority programs and initiatives of the Lab; develops and implements government and stakeholder relations programs to help increase support for the Lab's programs and priority projects; and oversees science education and workforce development programs to fulfill the Lab's and DOE's education and diversity goals.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under minimal supervision plans, coordinates and produces graphic design, layout, and artwork for use in Laboratory publications, presentation graphics, administrative documents, forms and a full range of printed information products.
- Provide artistic guidance to Laboratory personnel.
- Work with directorates to provide scientific illustrations to be used in journals, DOE reviews and other publications.
Position Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- At least 5 years of technical publishing experience, including demonstrated, extensive experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications. (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly MS Word and PowerPoint, in a technical publishing environment is also required.
- Bachelor of Fine Arts, Graphic Design or related field.
- Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to effectively interface with the rest of the team, which can include the Creative Director, scientific staff, senior leadership, and production personnel in coordinating production.
- Experience in creating scientific and/or medical illustrations.
- Proven experience working within established brand guidelines is a must.
- Must be able to work within tight production schedules on multiple projects that may have similar deadlines. Some evening/weekend overtime may be required.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills required to manage workload and meet deadlines.
- Must possess considerable knowledge of the entire production process, and extensive knowledge of typography and its usage.
- Must be familiar with photographic, printing, binding, finishing, and mailing processes and operations.
- A strong portfolio of illustrations and other graphics is required.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience working with scientists or technical experts.
- Experience with 3D animation is a plus.
