TITLE: TECHNOLOGY HELP DESK
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a current State of South Dakota driver’s license.
- Requires basic knowledge of various computer systems and software. These include the Microsoft Office Suite, Student Information Systems, web-based applications, and equipment used in servicing school district computers and peripherals.
- Must be able to work well with little supervision and make decisions regarding repair or replacement of components.
- Must always use safe working practices and have the ability to plan, layout, and complete complex assignments. Must be able to work safely and efficiently in public areas.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills and good basic mathematics skills.
- Able to effectively communicate and work with the staff and the students of the Brookings School district to troubleshoot and resolve various issues.
- Must be able to safely operate diagnostic equipment, tools, and equipment needed in servicing school district computers and peripherals.
- Must have the ability to independently diagnose and resolve complicated repairs and upgrades with minimum guidance from the supervisor. Must have the ability to read, understand, and evaluate manuals, operating instructions, and specifications, and be able to transfer that knowledge to effective resolution of problems and repairs.
- Associate’s degree in computer science or relevant experience in support of computer systems and applications, networks, or any equivalent combination of experience and training
- Skill in hardware installation and maintenance is recommended.
REPORTS TO: Director of Technology
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To communicate with staff and students to troubleshoot and maintain computer equipment and peripherals of the district. The helpdesk specialist performs hardware repairs, software updates, basic maintenance, setup and installation of school equipment and peripherals. This work is performed on all district laptops and desktops, printers, copiers, and other equipment used in the educational environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be physically fit with strength, agility, and stamina to work with heavy components, climb and work on ladders, and stand for prolonged periods in a safe manner. Must be able to lift 25 pounds above the shoulder level regularly, 50 pounds waist high regularly, and up to 100 pounds waist high occasionally.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, maintain and repair computers, terminals, printers, and other data communication equipment.
- Utilize appropriate hardware/software trouble-shooting procedures to perform appropriate repairs.
- Instruct users in procedures to operate and maintain computer equipment.
- Attend schools and seminars to ensure a high level of proficiency in the installed computer base.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all school matters.
- Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
- Exhibit support for the district’s vision, mission, goals and priorities.
- Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
- Provide for a safe and secure workplace.
- Model and maintain high ethical standards.
- Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
- Maintain positive relationships with staff and vendors.
- Participate in workshops and training sessions as required.
- Communicate effectively with staff and vendors.
- Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
- Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
- Upgrade software in a school wide environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary, benefits, length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the district.
