What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator of School Counseling position at Brookline High School?
Brookline High School, a nationally recognized high school in Brookline, MA, seeks an experienced, innovative, and dynamic leader for its School Counseling Department. Brookline is a diverse high school serving a town with a long-standing and deep commitment to excellence in education. The ideal candidate will have experience in school counseling, social work, leadership, college and career planning, and supervision and evaluation.
Mass DESE Supervisor/Director Guidance certification is strongly preferred. Candidates with other administrative licenses may be considered.
- Create and establish a vision for the school counseling and clinical services department that is aligned with the Brookline High School vision.
- Evaluate, supervise, and support school counselors and school social workers.
- Support and foster school counselors' and school social workers’ professional growth.
- Represent and advocate for the school counseling and clinical services department to BHS administration, other departments and programs, PTO, BHS Scholarship Committee, and the community.
- Involve and integrate the school counseling and clinical services department members with BHS administration, other departments and programs; PTO, BHS Scholarship Committee, and the community.
- Coordinate department functioning, including supervision of department secretaries, oversight of the budget, monitoring transcripts, and leading department meetings.
- Provide supervision and support for the BHS BRYT program.
- Provide support and coordination for Brookline Substance Use and Violence Prevention Program.
- Coordinate, supervise, support, and strengthen the BHS college process, procedures, and events.
- Supervise and support college counselors in overseeing and communicating about college visits and post-secondary opportunities.
- Meet with prospective BHS students and their families; interview, and give tours.
- Oversee processing of accommodation forms for College Board and ACT and administration of school-based individual SATs and ACTs.
- Participate In and support the special education process.
- Participate in and support the pre-referral process (i.e., the Student Intervention Team).
- Oversee and manage the 504 processes at BHS, including providing supervision and support for school counselors/504 coordinators.
- Support the creation and implementation of evidence-based guidance curriculum.
- Support planning and implementation of the BHS master schedule
- Assist team in transition planning for incoming Grade 9.
- Maintain a small caseload of counselees (.2 = 40 students).
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Coordinator of Guidance is a Unit B Administrative position, supervised by the Head of School, with a 194-day work year.
