    The Brooklyn Center Community Schools (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join our team as a Youth Program Summer Staff Member. The Youth Program Staff will plan and lead high-quality youth enrichment activities through the district's out-of-school time/summer programs. Staff will be required to serve as positive role models for all youth and independently supervise groups of up to 20 at a time. Positions are available at our elementary and middle/high school sites; some positions may work at multiple sites.

    Essential Job Responsibilities:

    • Create culturally responsive, high-quality lesson plans for out-of-school time activities that are tied to program and district goals and initiatives.
    • Provide lesson plans and supply lists to program coordinator in a timely manner.
    • Deliver high-quality instruction in the area(s) of expertise with to up to 20 students at a time, accommodating differences in developmental styles and learning.
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with students and colleagues to promote a positive program climate.
    • Ensure the physical, social, and emotional safety of all students at all times.
    • Support student needs and address behavior concerns from a strengths-based perspective.
    • Support the expansion, alignment, and successful implementation of 21st Century OST programming by completing training, assisting in continuous quality improvement data collection (surveys, interviews, etc.), and utilizing best practices for lesson planning and student engagement.
    • Assist the nutrition services department by distributing snacks or meals, tracking distribution, and cafeteria supervision.
    • Supervise students during unstructured playtimes.
    • Support daily program needs as they arise by being flexible and accommodating.
    • Establish effective communication with families, staff, partners, and students.
    • Assist in coordinating student leadership opportunities in collaboration with the Youth Programs Coordinator and others. Represent the community schools team at community engagement events.
    • Communicate the Community Schools' philosophy and programs to all stakeholders.
    • Recruit students for the program. Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Pay and Benefits: $19.00/hour

    Positions Available for STEP at BCE and LEAP at BCS-
    Duty Days: Monday-Thursday, June 9 - July 24
    **Periodic trainings for this position will start May 1, with actual hours starting June 9
    Hours: STEP:7:30am-2:15pm or 7:45am-2:15pm/ LEAP: 9:00am-1:15pm or 9:15pm-1:15pm



    Knowledge, Skills and, Abilities Preferred:

    • Must be 17 years of age or older.
    • High school diploma, preferred.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to positively interact with youth and support their development.
    • Previous experience working with diverse populations and urban school settings preferred.
    • Previous experience with and understanding of out-of-school time youth programs.
    • Thorough knowledge of school and district rules, regulations, and procedures.
    • Knowledge of the Community Schools model.
    • Thorough knowledge of Youth Program Quality Assessment or equivalent.
    • Knowledge and understanding of effective community partnerships and community and civic engagement experience.
    • General knowledge of grant and project reporting, including data collection and evaluation.

    Physical Requirements: Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and exposure to bodily fluids; may be required to wear a mask and other personal protective equipment in a pandemic outbreak; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). All staff: Must be able to go outside daily. Must be able to lift 20 pounds. Must be able to supervise up to 20 students at a time.
