Position : ESOL & Work Readiness Instructor
Division : Families, Community Building and Workforce Development
Reports to : ESL Coordinator, Education Center
Location : Education Center
Status / Hours : Part time hybrid position. 10 contact hours, five hours of paid preparation time, and one hour of meetings per week. Classes meet Monday - Thursday between 6 pm and 9 pm.
Salary Range : $42.00 / hour - $42.00 / hour
Program Description :
The Education Center provides adult education services to the Brooklyn community. We serve participants with ESOL classes, GED preparation classes, and language-supported vocational training. In addition, the Education Center operates a Family Welcome Center in which we provide case management & wrap-around services, workforce development programming, and regular community workshops & events. Many of our students speak Spanish, Arabic, or Chinese as their first language.
Position Description :
The BCS Education Center is seeking an ESOL Instructor to teach an English course integrated with job training in hospitality, specifically tailored for the restaurant and hotel industries. The instructor will design and facilitate lessons that align with vocational training, focusing on developing the language skills necessary for success in hospitality roles. By fostering an engaging and inclusive learning environment, the instructor will support adult learners in achieving measurable skills-gain, meeting testing standards, and maintaining program retention goals. This role is ideal for a dedicated educator passionate about combining language instruction with career readiness.

Responsible for :
Design and deliver ESOL lessons integrated with hospitality job training for students pursuing careers in the restaurant and hotel industries.
Develop course materials that focus on industry-specific language skills, such as customer service, communication, and hospitality terminology.
Tailor lesson plans to meet the needs of adult learners, ensuring alignment with measurable skills-gain and retention targets.
Foster an inclusive and engaging classroom environment that encourages active participation, skill development, and confidence in language use.
Provide individualized support to students to address their specific learning needs and challenges.
Track and document student attendance, performance, and testing outcomes to ensure alignment with program goals.
Provide feedback to students on their language development and areas for improvement.
Stay updated on ESOL teaching methods, hospitality industry trends, and best practices for integrating language training with vocational education.
Ensure adherence to all program guidelines, safety protocols, and organizational policies.
Qualifications Required :
Bachelor’s degree.
Certificate or higher in TESOL.
Knowledge of TESOL methods and techniques; experience working with multicultural adult learners.
At least one year of teaching experience, preferably in a community setting.
Language skills in Spanish, Arabic, and / or Chinese are preferred.
Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and work as part of a team.
Ability to communicate effectively under stress, while receiving feedback, or during periods of change.
