FAMILY PROGRAMS – FAMILY PROGRAMS TEACHING ARTIST
The Brooklyn Museum seeks a teaching artist to facilitate as well as teach drop-in art making for diverse intergenerational audiences attending the special exhibition Artland in the Education Gallery. Additionally, they will design workshops centered on Artland with the Family Programs Coordinator and facilitate monthly Saturday workshops.
Qualifications:
- BFA in visual arts or BA in education, art history, or a related field
- Minimum of one year’s museum education experience
- Excellent studio teaching skills for diverse intergenerational audiences
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- A warm and welcoming demeanor and ability to make visitors comfortable in the space
- Experience writing lesson plans and track record of meeting deadlines
- Ability to design innovative yet simple activities with strong connections to art on view
- Knowledge of sculpture techniques and materials
- Demonstrable commitment to the Museum’s vision of art as a catalyst for a connected, civic, and empathetic world
Responsibilities:
- Co-Design monthly workshops (up to 60 minutes) for participants of all ages centered around Artland
- Co-teach drop-in art-making from 12pm - 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays 11 am - 4 pm (includes setting up project, welcoming and seating participants, distributing supplies, providing instruction, clean-up). The space serves approximately 10-20 people at a time; with total served daily estimated to be up to 100 people.
- Monitor and prep supplies
- Set up and clean up art-making space in the Education Gallery
- When applicable, distribute media release forms and information about other Museum programs

Schedule
Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 am-4:30 pm January 27 through May 5, 2024; Winter Break February 21st – 23rd from 10:30 am – 4:30 pm; Spring Break April 24th – 26th 10:30 am – 4:30 pm. Planning and other hours are flexible.
