Summary
The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is the not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, The City of New York (the City). BNYDC constantly strives to provide an environment in which businesses and careers can take root and grow.
The Director of Security leads in planning, organizing, directing, supervising, administering and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Department. The Director oversees training, discipline, and integrity control.
Areas of Responsibility
- Demonstrate and cultivate an environment of Courtesy, Professionalism, and Respect
- Serve as chief advisor to the COO and CEO in all matters related to security
- Ensure that strategic plans are properly resourced and aligned with BNYDC objectives
- Provide quarterly reports to the COO and CEO concerning officer performance, the status of security program objectives, resource requirements, and security issues or trends
- Evaluate officer performance through exercises, post visits, records review, equipment inventory audits, etc.
- Act as the primary liaison to public safety and emergency service agencies
- Participate in tenant meetings. Communicate security information to tenants on a regular basis and ensure concerns are appropriately addressed
- Lead the Security Committee, convening with representatives of tenants’ own security organizations
- Communicate event planning and emergent threat information to officers, directing them on appropriate response actions
- Manage team policies, plans, and training materials, making routine updates as needed
- Assist in implementing new security policies, procedures, and best practices
- Conduct investigations and maintain records of security breaches and incidents

Required Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills with proven ability to liaise with stakeholders ranging from Security Officers to C-Suite & executive leadership
- Expert knowledge of facility management, crisis intervention, and security principles
- Strong project management skills with the ability to create and implement strategic plans
- Strong leader with demonstrated experience managing and developing a large team
- Experience implementing process improvement initiatives
- Experience with budgeting and a working knowledge of basic accounting principles
- Experience with data analysis. Ability to define, measure, and report out KPIs
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required. Will consider an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- 7 years of experience private security, public safety, law enforcement, or a related field
- 5 years of experience managing a team. Experience managing people managers preferred
- Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) Course (must obtain within 1 year of employment)
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP®) certification preferred
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed
Salary : $115,000 - $120,000
