Brooklyn Yard Veterinary Hospital is an independently owned, modern, 5 doctor small animal hospital centrally located in SE Portland’s vibrant Brooklyn neighborhood. We opened in January 2019 and are looking for an exceptional team member to join our hospital. We aim to break the mold of “one-size fits all” veterinary medicine and will offer tailored veterinary care focusing on what is important to our clients and the health of their pet(s). Our niche is supporting guardians of animals that experience veterinary phobias as well as providing a level of behavior support for folks actively working with a credentialed positive reinforcement trainer. We have an excellent reputation in the Portland metro area and actively contribute to both our local neighborhood and work with select Portland animal rescue groups. Community involvement is very important to us.

We are looking for team members to provide concierge-style customer service and impeccable patient care in a low-stress environment focused on comfort for our clients and most importantly their pets. You’ll work in tandem with our veterinarians and other team members to provide our clients and patients with excellent veterinary experiences in a supportive and collaborative environment. Client Service Representative

Brooklyn Yard Veterinary Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to join our brand new veterinary hospital as a full-time Client Service Representative/Veterinary Receptionist. This individual must have impeccable communication skills, the ability to multitask in a busy environment, and be able to promote the best possible image of our hospital.

This individual is the first impression of our hospital and must be committed to providing an exceptional client and patient experience. This can be a fast-paced position that involves the ability to think critically. The ideal applicant must have compassion for both people and animals, the ability to anticipate client and patient needs, and strive to always promote a polished image of our hospital. We are willing to teach the right individual skills for confident and accurate communication with our clients.

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Triaging clients, scheduling appointments, and managing the reception area
  • Patient intake and discharge
  • Reviewing medical records and data input
  • Exam room set up and clean up
  • Keeping the waiting area organized, clean, and inviting
  • Communicating effectively with both clients and other team members

Successful candidates will:

  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have a strong work ethic
  • Have the ability to pay attention to the little details that makes a superior client/patient experience. Our veterinarians are Fear Free™ certified and put a strong emphasis on low stress visits for our patients.
  • Be inquisitive, ask questions, and know how to utilize resources
  • Must love both pets and people—the majority of this position is customer service oriented.
  • Be a self-starting individual of integrity who is adaptable and accountable.
  • Be familiar with computers and office software, we are a paperless practice and utilize both SmartFlow and EzyVet.
  • Be adaptable. We are a relatively new clinic and our protocols change as we continue to grow and add more services .
  • High emotional intelligence. This can be a stressful job at times and how you communicate and manage conflict is very important.

The requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have at least one year of customer service experience in any field
  • Availability to work weekends
  • Reliability
  • Have strong typing skills and a polished telephone etiquette
  • Previous veterinary receptionist experience is preferred, but not required
