Job Title: Islamic Spiritual Guide - Life Connections Program
Location: United States Penitentiary, Terre Haute, Indiana
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Islamic Spiritual Guide to join the Life Connections Program (LCP) at the United States Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana. This role involves providing spiritual guidance and religious instruction to Adults in Custody (AIC) of the Islamic faith, as part of the Bureau of Prison's Residential Life Connections Pre-release Program.
Schedule:
- The role requires up to 30 sessions each week, with each session lasting one hour.
- Work hours are typically Monday-Friday, excluding Federal Holidays, between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., with some evening and weekend hours as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership for Islamic Spiritual Guide groups within the LCP.
- Develop and implement lesson plans based on the core LCP curriculum for individuals of the Islamic faith.
- Facilitate study groups, educational classes, workshops, and seminars attended by individuals of various faiths.
- Lead prayers and offer counsel from an Islamic theological perspective.
- Assess student progress and maintain records, reporting progress to the LCP Chaplain.
- Foster relationships with students from diverse religious communities.
Qualifications:
- Must possess an ordination certificate or equivalent document as a recognized clergy or spiritual leader in good standing with their faith community.
- Minimum of three years of documented, continuous full-time experience as a minister.
- Must possess or be enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Islamic Studies, religious studies, religious education, philosophy, human sciences, or related fields.
- Experience working in a correctional setting is preferred.
- Must be a United States Citizen and have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years.
- Ability to pass a criminal and financial background check.
