Job Title: School Counselor
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced School Counselor to join the Pine Ridge School team in support of the Bureau of Indian Education. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive school counseling services to students, particularly focusing on those with special education needs as per the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) of 2004.
Work Hours:
- Must work with staff during the core duty hours, which are from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Mountain Daylight Time (MDT).
- No work on days when the school is closed due to holidays, snow days, or other school closure events, as outlined on the Pine Ridge School's calendar.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver school counseling services at least four days each week, with three days on-site at Pine Ridge School and one day off-site for consultations.
- Conduct counseling-related assessments and evaluations within 5-7 days after referral.
- Collaborate with the Special Education Director, school staff, students, and parents.
- Provide crisis intervention and create individualized behavior plans.
- Integrate social-emotional learning programs into the curriculum.
- Maintain documentation of services provided through the Native American Student Information System (NASIS).
- Participate in meetings and contribute to the school's multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in Counseling from an accredited program.
- Active certification by the State of South Dakota with a School Counselor Specialist Endorsement.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a school counselor in a school setting.
- Ability to pass a background check and obtain necessary security clearances.
- Valid state driver's license.
