Research Engineer - Grid Visualization & Analytics
Work Environment:
The position supports the Schatz Grid Visualization and Analytics Center (SGVAC) within our clients R&D department. SGVAC is an innovation center focused on:
- Situational awareness technologies for Transmission and Distribution
- Synchrophasor technology
- Next generation control center functionalities
- Cyber security testing
- Advanced visualization approaches
- DERMS platform evaluation
- Data analytics
- Modeling and simulation with Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) and hardware-in-the-loop testing
Position Summary:
This role provides support to the Grid Operations and Planning Research area. The engineer will support and eventually lead efforts to deploy and evaluate emerging technologies with a primary focus on:
- Tools for grid operations
- Power system analysis
- Power system modeling and simulation
- "Big data" analytics
- Visualization
Additional work may include projects integrating Distribution Management Systems (DMS) and Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS).
Education Requirements:
- Required: Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (EE)
- Desired: Specialization in Power Systems
- Desired: Training/experience with computer programming (Python, C#, SQL)
- Desired: Training/experience with data science
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop research plans to evaluate new technologies
- Manage multiple concurrent tasks
- Document study assumptions and methods
- Provide informative reports and presentations
- Limited overnight travel may be required
