JOB SUMMARY
Assist the Finance Reporting team with financial records by inputting financial transactions, verifying the accuracy of ledgers, and providing timely and accurate management reports for the company. Also responsible for researching, interpreting, and communicating information related to a variety of investment, reinsurance, asset management, claims, and premium reporting issues.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Record investment transactions, reconcile custody statements to corporate ledgers, and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual investment reports related to the company’s investment portfolio.
- Identify and research data, reconciliation, and reporting issues related to claims, premiums, and billing tables. Work with the IT department to ensure the data is corrected and preventative measures are taken.
- Balance the monthly financial statements to the corporate ledger by recording accrual transactions. Research and resolve any inconsistencies and improve the process when possible.
- Learn and understand the statutory accounting principles used by insurance companies. Upload financial results for quarterly and annual reporting using the statutory reporting software. Upload financial results to dashboards and create financial reports as necessary.
- Upload monthly balances into the budgeting system for reporting. Create budget reports and distribute them to various departments on a monthly basis. Assist in identifying and analyzing variances for each department and record correcting entries as needed.
- Record affiliate reimbursement and chargeback transactions. Ensure proper calculations have been performed and the appropriate authorization is documented. Identify and resolve discrepancies between companies and ensure requested reimbursements are completed.
- Organize and monitor prepaid expenses including identifying and posting re-classes, preparing monthly amortization entries, and reconciling assets to the corporate ledger. Communicate with IT and other departments related to asset tracking and budgeting.
- Prepare and file, as scheduled, estimated tax payments, annual premium tax returns, sales and use tax statements, and other premium reports or assessments.
- Review invoices ready to be paid for proper accounting, authorization, and Indiana sales tax.
- Occasionally reconcile bank statements, claims check statements and investment custodial statements to corporate ledgers. Conduct research to identify and communicate with other personnel to resolve concerns.
- Occasionally document, compute, and process reinsurance transactions. Review claims activity for potential reinsurance applications. Calculate and record reinsurance payables and recoveries.
- Occasionally communicate with finance and customer service personnel regarding billing, accounts receivable, and premium payment issues. Research concerns related to the lockbox, EFT, and other deposit processes.
- Complete other projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with a minimum of a two-year accounting emphasis.
- Must have 2 – 3 years general business, insurance or related experience.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is desired.
- Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and/or Associate in Insurance Accounting and Finance (AIAF) designation is desired.
