The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and the North Perry Airport (HWO) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Equipment Operator. The Equipment Operator performs skilled work in the operation of large vehicles and equipment. Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but may determine how or when to complete tasks. Responsibilities include airfield grass cutting and sweeping the airport roadway system.
All Aviation Department employees must possess the ability to interact courteously with the public, Airport vendors, contractors and fellow employees to maintain a professional work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes a positive work environment.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with authority to drive a county vehicle for duration of appointment
- Must be able to obtain/maintain Airport security & customs badging.
- Must be able to obtain/maintain Airfield driving privileges, movement & non movement.
Preferences:
Airfield and Ramp Driving Experience
Experience Operating Commercial Lawn Maintenance Equipment
Candidates selected for interviews may be required to demonstrate their ability to operate various equipment utilized by the Aviation Department. All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check, including fingerprinting.
Per the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Part 1542, all airport employees must undergo a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and a Security Threat Assessment (STA) in order to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge, as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Transports construction equipment using a lowbed semi-trailer; operates tractor-trailer and tandem trucks in local hauling tasks; loads and unloads vehicles as required; operates heavy duty road roller in resurfacing and roadway construction; operates front-end loader or small tractor rigged with hydraulic loading lift and back hoe digging shovel; operates tractor and "bush hog" for mowing roadway shoulders and removing vegetation from drainage ditches; operates sweeper truck for cleaning roadways; may operate smaller earth moving equipment such as small bulldozers and bobcats.
Performs operator pre-checks on equipment; checks lubricants, cooling systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems; makes necessary minor adjustments and reports malfunctions to supervisor.
Performs related work as assigned.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
