Lead Evening Dog Care Specialist – Independent, High-Responsibility/Lead Role

Brown Dog Inn, Maine’s premier boutique dog hotel, is seeking a dedicated, experienced professional to take on one of our most important roles—ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of our dogs at the end of the day. This is an independent, career-level position requiring maturity, reliability, and strong decision-making skills. It is a 'Lead' position within the team.
What You’ll Do:
- Work independently to manage the facility in the evening, ensuring all dogs are safely tucked in for the night.
- Supervise small, curated groups, maintaining a calm and balanced environment.
- Monitor and document dog behavior, wellness, and special care needs, providing clear updates for the next shift.
- Utilize safety tools (leashes, walkie-talkies, logs) to ensure seamless operations.
- Maintain a clean, home-like environment that aligns with our hygge philosophy.
- Use smart screens and digital tools for communication, scheduling, and record-keeping.
- Capture social media updates to highlight the joy and care at Brown Dog Inn.
An Independent Role Requiring Reliability & Maturity
This is a self-directed position that requires someone who is confident working independently, making responsible decisions, and ensuring everything is in place at the end of the night. We need a dependable professional who understands the importance of showing up consistently—the dogs (and our team) rely on you.
We are specifically looking for candidates available for a Friday–Tuesday schedule, working 11 AM – 8 PM.
Who We’re Looking For:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in dog handling, veterinary care, dog walking/sitting, or animal behavior education.
- Reliable and responsible – this role carries significant responsibility as the final team member on-site.
- Self-directed and proactive – able to work independently with confidence.
- Excellent communicator – provides clear, detailed updates to ensure smooth transitions between shifts.
- Physically active – comfortable walking, playing, and handling dogs in all weather.
- Calm and confident – able to read and manage canine behavior effectively.
- Comfortable using digital tools for communication and record-keeping.
- Experience with social media content creation is a plus!
- Any special skills (training, grooming, or behavior work) are highly valued.
