Job Overview
Grammy Rose Dog Care & Sanctuary located in Acton Maine is looking for a qualified Dog Care Lead to serve in a supervisor capacity overseeing the evening dog care staff’s daily activities including feeding, exercise and enrichment, documentation and all other aspects of care for the dogs in residence. This is a full-time, 2nd shift, position with shifts on weekends and two days off during the week. The rescue operates 24/7/365 including weekends and holidays.
Essential Job Functions
- Oversee the dog care staff’s daily activities to include feeding, grooming, exercising and socialization, and proper documentation of dog activities and behaviors in the computer system
- Assist with training for dogs identified to need extra attention with different behaviors
- Ensure regular, thorough cleaning of dog living areas, cabin living spaces, fenced in play areas and grounds and completion of all tasks and checklists
- Oversee new dog arrivals and complete and document arrival assessments within 3 days of arrival
- Ensure that all aspects of dog care are carried out in the best interest of the dogs in residence and in keeping with established policies and procedures
- Assist with adoption meetings and proceedings
- Work with volunteer coordinator to ensure the best possible outcome for dogs and volunteers
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Must have previous experience supervising others
- Ability and desire to work with dogs of all sizes, breeds and temperaments and provide care in a humane manner in keeping with established organizational standards
- Previous dog care experience - previous rescue or kennel experience preferred
- Ability to work with and train challenging dogs
- Ability to work 2nd shift (typically 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM) including weekends and holidays
- Physical strength, stamina and agility to work with dogs, equipment and supplies
- Outstanding customer service attitude, team-oriented approach to work and flexibility to pivot as needed based on daily operations
- Ability to communicate effectively to all members of the organization
- Ability to use computers and software to record dog observations and care notes
