What are the responsibilities and job description for the POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN CHILDREN’S ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH position at Brown University School of Public Health?
Dr. Joseph Braun, Associate Professor of Epidemiology, and his team are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate (100% FTE for at least 2 years, appointment renewed yearly) interested in investigating the health effects, biological pathways, and sources of environmental chemical exposures in pregnant women, infants, children, and adolescents. We are beginning two new projects. The first will examine prenatal perfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) exposure and mid-adulthood health. The second will examine the relations between ultraprocessed food intake, endocrine disrupting chemical exposures, and maternal metabolic health. The postdoctoral research associate will work with a team of investigators from institutions across North America and utilize four prospective cohort studies with prenatal chemical exposures, metabolomic measures, and adolescent/adult cardiometabolic health.
Responsibilities include a) designing and interpreting epidemiologic studies; b) conducting biostatistical analysis; c) assisting with the design, execution, and interpretation of laboratory assays and experiments to ensure rigorous and robust metabolomics results; d) drafting manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications; e) submitting and presenting abstracts at scientific meetings; and, f) overseeing data documentation and processing, including processing and curation of metabolomics data.
The Department of Epidemiology is interested in qualified candidates who have demonstrated commitment to excellence by providing leadership in teaching, research or service toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
Position Requirements: 1) PhD, ScD, or DrPH in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field in public health or bioinformatics; 2) Methodological training in epidemiologic methods, environmental health, and/or biostatistics, preferably with knowledge of chemical exposures, cardiometabolic health, children’s health, and/or metabolomics; 3) Advanced data management and analysis skills and experience (e.g., SAS, R), preferably conducting metabolomics or other high-dimensional data management and analysis (e.g., XCMS, XMSAnalyzer, mummichog); 4) Peer-reviewed publications, preferably related to environmental health or metabolomics; 5) Strong writing skills; and 6) Superb technical skills, especially with coding.
