Construction Laborer

Summary/Objective

Browning Contractors Inc. is a leading underground construction company for the Central Valley. We are currently looking for experienced laborers who have worked in the construction trade. Underground Construction experience is not required but is preferred. Our Foreman and Operators constantly rely on our Laborers to help in getting the job done, therefore it is vital that all applicants are eager to learn and work well in a team environment.

Essential Functions

• Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy construction projects; perform manual work in preparing pipe/conduit for installation
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools
• Shovel sand/soil into construction areas
• Assist in excavating and backfilling trenches and ditches
• Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day to eliminate potential hazards
• Perform material handling and storage
• Load and unload trucks - haul and hoist materials
• Operate trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies
• Control traffic at worksites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned
• Follow daily procedures and protocols as set forth in job orientations and training
• Ensure proper safety and notify foreman, safety director or HR of any issues
• Other duties as assigned by foreman/leadman/management; duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works in extreme conditions near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, dust, electrical/gas hazards and blood borne pathogens.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The position lifts heavy objects up to 80 pounds by themselves, more than 80 pounds with assistance not to exceed 100 lbs. The position walks, stands, kneels and bends for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina.
