We are working with a prominent provider of specialized industrial services, dedicated to delivering solutions in fireproofing systems, industrial coatings, tank linings, scaffolding, and insulation. Their expertise serves critical sectors such as oil, gas, petrochemical, and manufacturing, with both shop and field production capabilities. With operational facilities in key locations, our client maintain a robust presence in the Midwest and Gulf Coast regions. As they continue to expand, we are looking for a talented and committed Accounting Controller to join the team.


Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Controller acts as a vital partner to both operations and finance teams, overseeing financial operations. This role is crucial in enhancing the organization’s understanding of operational performance and financial planning, as well as assessing the implications of management decisions on financial outcomes.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the month-end close process, including preparing balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and transaction reviews to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Manage the accounting team, which includes roles such as Assistant Controller, Accounts Payable Clerk, and Accounts Receivable Clerk.
  • Review financial statements and forecasts to evaluate company performance against established goals.
  • Ensure timely and accurate P&L reporting by job for operations management and the CFO.
  • Collaborate with management to achieve strategic goals and fulfill business needs through effective accounting services.
  • Assist in developing annual budgets, quarterly projections, and long-term financial plans.
  • Analyze key operational metrics and assess performance against benchmarks.
  • Conduct cost analysis and profitability studies; develop financial models for informed decision-making.
  • Support the CFO with audit schedules, tax documentation, and other reporting requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes and systems in collaboration with the finance team.
  • Aid in the collection of overdue accounts receivable and manage customer account portals.
  • Work closely with project managers to create internal rate sheets for estimates and quotes.
  • Undertake special projects and financial reporting as needed.
  • Manage company audits and surveys requested by external entities.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
  • At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity; public accounting experience is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, financial reporting, and accounting best practices.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and financial software.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven leadership skills with a history of building and nurturing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.


Working Conditions:

  • This is a full-time, in-office role.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary for business purposes.
