About this Opportunity
Brunswick County is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Assistant II to join our Tax Department. TheAdministrative Assistant performs a variety of clerical, technical, and administrative duties in support of the collection of County taxes.
Responsibilities include: independently preparing correspondence, management reports, and agenda items for commissioner meetings; coordination of tax matters with nineteen municipalities; assisting with county billing processes; coordinating the municipal billing processes; purchasing office materials; preparing tax releases; maintaining tax office equipment and assignments; preparing legal notices for the newspaper and county website; preparing work requests for Operation Services and Fire Fee Administration; and serving as a technical liaison between the Tax Office, vendors, and County IT Department.
Work also involves providing professional customer service in relaying information, taking messages, and/or routing calls to the appropriate personnel. The ability to produce accurate, on-time, high quality outputs while working under pressure is essential.

This position reports to the Tax Administrator.
Education and Experience
Associate degree in business administration, accounting, or related field AND two (2) plus years of experience in clerical/administrative work; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Experience can be substituted for education; however, education cannot be substituted for experience.
- Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver License required.
- Fundamental knowledge of Real Property Appraisal, UNC School of Government Property Tax Listing and Assessing in North Carolina, Listing, Assessment and Taxation of Property in North Carolina highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Machinery Act of North Carolina preferred.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers, telephones, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, etc. Must be physically able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
