About This Opportunity
Brunswick County is currently accepting applications for an Emergency Management Specialist to join our Emergency Management team. At Brunswick County we’re committed to providing highly responsive, effective, and efficient emergency management and planning services for citizens and visitors across Brunswick County and surrounding areas. The Emergency Management Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring we’re able to positively impact the health, safety, and welfare of County residents during times of crisis, natural disasters, and other emergencies.
Responsibilities
The Emergency Management Specialist is responsible for performing administrative and technical work to support the overall preparedness mission for Brunswick County, including coordinating, deploying, and maintaining logistical resources. Work includes:
Education and Experience
High school diploma (or equivalent) AND three (3) years of experience in logistics management, emergency management, public safety, or related field, including: experience with operating and towing trailers and deploying mobile asses; knowledge of warehouse management, inventory control, and resource tracking; knowledge of emergency response operations and ICS; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Associate degree in emergency management, logistics, public administration or related field preferred. Experience with radio communications equipment (including programming and servicing) preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including calculators, computers, copiers, etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

- Transporting equipment using trailers.
- Managing warehouse inventory.
- Coordinating the maintenance of emergency management assets.
- Ensuring operational readiness of communication and support equipment.
- Providing ongoing support during major emergencies/disasters for the County, towns, schools, and other designated partners.
Education and Experience
High school diploma (or equivalent) AND three (3) years of experience in logistics management, emergency management, public safety, or related field, including: experience with operating and towing trailers and deploying mobile asses; knowledge of warehouse management, inventory control, and resource tracking; knowledge of emergency response operations and ICS; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. - Valid Class B North Carolina Driver’s License (Class A preferred).
- Completion of ICS/IS 100, ICS/IS 200, ICS 300, IS 700, IS 800.
- Completion of All Hazards Supply Unit Leader Course, L-0970 (within first year of employment).
- CPR Certification.
- Radiological Response Core Concepts (within first year of employment).
- Forklift Operator Certification (within 3 months of employment).
