BSRI serves as the lead aging services agency for Brunswick County, NC, providing comprehensive resources and support to older adults and their families. As the primary organization dedicated to enhancing the well-being and independence of seniors in the community, BSRI offers a wide range of services, including nutrition programs, caregiver support, transportation, and wellness initiatives. In this role, BSRI collaborates with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure that older adults have access to the services and resources they need to age in place and thrive within their communities.

Aging Resources Purpose: The Aging Resources Division is comprised of a team of Aging Resource Specialists who work to connect Brunswick County residents 60 and older and their caregivers to community programs, resources, and support by providing information and referrals, assistance in navigating application processes, and connection to home-delivered meals, home care, caregiver resources, and counseling.
Job Objective:
The Aging Resource Specialist (ARS) serves as a key community contact, providing essential services to older adults and their families. This role involves conducting outreach and educational programs designed to improve the quality of life and independence of older adults, while also advocating for their needs. The ARS is responsible for assessing individual needs, connecting clients with relevant services, and acting as a liaison between clients, families, and community organizations. Additionally, the ARS coordinates home visits to assist families in planning and accessing resources for older adult care.
Competitive hourly wage of $22-$27.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct home visits to evaluate eligibility for the Home Delivered Meals (HDM) program, complete required assessments, engage with participants in a positive and supportive manner, manage related paperwork, input data into the agency’s database system, and coordinate meal delivery schedules.
- Perform biannual home visits to determine continued eligibility for HDM services, complete reassessments, and input data into the agency’s database system.
- Conduct home visits to determine eligibility for the Family Caregiver Support (FCS) program, complete FCS assessments, engage positively with participants and caregivers, manage documentation, and input data into the agency’s database system.
- Assess participant needs, make referrals, coordinate services, follow up on participant needs not addressed on-site, and document all interactions into the agency’s database system.
- Assume the role of Program Lead, overseeing staff training, ensuring program compliance, and creating policies and procedures for the assigned program.
- Facilitate support groups, guiding members in purposeful discussions addressing relevant issues.
- Deliver presentations on aging and disability-related topics in community settings.
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing various programs, events, and outreach activities.
- Participate in aging and disability-related network groups and committees.
- Support the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) in strategic planning, program design, implementation, and other development activities.
- Demonstrate proficiency in relevant principles, practices, statutes, and community resources.
- Assist with correspondence, reports, grants, and data materials.
- Support Nutrition Coordinators with HDM-related issues.
- Contribute to disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
- Provide teaching and training to various stakeholders.
- Fulfill other assigned or requested duties.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Gerontology, or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties of the position successfully.
- Proficiency in or willingness to learn basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Suite.
- Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
- Ability to perform tasks that may involve extended periods of sitting, standing, and occasionally lifting up to 25-40 pounds as needed for program operations.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate program needs.
- Ability to recognize and address ethical dilemmas in practice, applying professional ethical standards to decision-making and client interactions, and seeking supervision or guidance when necessary.
- Knowledge of and adherence to the NASW (National Association of Social Workers) Code of Ethics, ensuring integrity and accountability in all professional responsibilities.
- Valid Driver’s License and consent to pre-employment background screening and random drug testing required.
