What are the responsibilities and job description for the LEAD PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER (Timber Trail) position at Bryan County?
This position is to maintain park grounds and recreation facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Plants, cultivates, and maintains landscaped grounds at County park including flower gardens, shrubbery beds, nature trails, and wooded areas; plants and cultivates seeds, set plants, seedlings, and cuttings; plants and maintains flower beds and gardens; removes dead, diseased, and damaged trees and limbs as required.
Prunes plants, trees, and shrubbery; plants and maintains lawns and other grassed areas.
Irrigate plants, grass and their surrounding beds as necessary.
Prepares athletic facilities for activities including painting, lining and dragging of fields. Removal of precipitation and placement of field drying agent to fields to promote scheduled programs. Placement of bases, pitching rubbers, homeplates, goals and nets on athletic facilities in order to provide schedule athletic activity.
Performs basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry construction and maintenance tasks on park facilities; assists in construction and development of park grounds and facilities.
Set up and breakdown of equipment and event supplies for recreation special events and activities.
Paints signs and park buildings and facilities; cleans park buildings and facilities.
Repairs playground equipment; transports tables and chairs, and sets up for events; erects and repairs chain=link fences and other park fixtures.
Performs minor maintenance on tools and grounds care machinery, including trucks, tractors, tillers, sprayers, dusters, seeders, spreaders, mowers, augurs, grading equipment, and various small gas and electric engines.
Perform other grounds and facilities maintenance duties such as emptying garbage and cleaning restrooms.
Opening/closing park facilities as required (gym, playing fields, restrooms, access to lights) ensuring facilities and equipment are prepared for the appropriate recreational activity.
Ensure recreational facilities and equipment are used appropriately.
Ensure facility’s operational hours are observed; opening and closing at appropriate hour.
Inspect facilities for damage or needed improvements; report damage immediately and make suggestions to improve facilities to the Park Maintenance Superintendent.
Coordinate with contractors and/or other County department to perform maintenance activities with the parks.
Supervise park maintenance employees and assign duties as needed.
Assign duties and ensure the completion of work performed by contracted labor.
Make purchases of tools and supplies as authorized for performing daily assignments.
Punctuality and attendance are essential.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED; additional vocational education in parks and ground maintenance preferred; three years of experience in grounds-keeping, facilities maintenance, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
