A prestigious global Am Law firm is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to support their Transactional Department. This role can sit in NYC, D.C., or Chicago.

The Senior Business Development Manager partners with Department and Practice Group leadership to drive strategic initiatives, identify growth opportunities, and provide comprehensive business development, branding, and marketing support within the Transactional Department (Corporate, Financial Services, and Tax). This role acts as a strategic business advisor to department and practice group leadership, contributing to the firm’s success in client retention, expansion, and market visibility.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Collaborate with department and practice leaders to create and implement annual business development plans, focusing on expanding client relationships, cross-selling opportunities, and attracting new clients.
  • Engage with attorneys to understand the department’s capabilities and client needs, aligning services to maximize client acquisition and revenue growth.
  • Provide strategic business development advice that demonstrates a deep understanding of market trends, client base, and competitive landscapes, especially in high-growth industries like venture capital and investment banking.
  • Develop pitch materials, proposals, and marketing collateral that highlight the department’s expertise and align with client needs, ensuring all materials are regularly updated.
  • Support lateral recruiting efforts and integration of new partners by identifying strategic business opportunities and enhancing market visibility.
  • Lead efforts to increase the department’s profile through client events, professional speaking engagements, publications, and strategic media opportunities.
  • Oversee submissions to industry ranking publications and ensure timely preparation of strategic materials for recognition opportunities.
  • Manage business development budgets and guide a team of BD professionals, providing mentorship and support to drive department goals.

Qualifications & Experience :

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; JD, MBA, or other advanced degrees may substitute for required experience.
  • 8 years of progressive business development experience, ideally within a transactional or corporate environment, with a proven track record of expanding client relationships and identifying new business opportunities.
  • Strong business acumen, leveraging financial and market intelligence to support strategic growth initiatives and go-to-market strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, managing and mentoring business development teams to drive results and align with strategic goals.
  • Proficient in knowledge management systems, including CRM tools, to optimize client engagement and business development efforts.
