Job Overview
The Junior Accountant will be responsible for assisting the controller with the preparation of monthly financial analysis reports, developing and maintaining department budgets and generating cost reports.
Duties may include; general ledger and bank statement reconciliation, preparing journal entries and financial statements, creating and maintaining periodic reporting, maintaining fixed asset system, assisting with annual budgeting and expenditures reporting, preparing statistical and financial reports for creditors and agencies, maintaining records retention and assisting the Chief Financial Officer in preparation of miscellaneous confidential correspondence. Assist with maintaining and controlling the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following-
- Collect pertinent information for third part audits and be the first point of contact.
- Assist the Controller with the day-to-day, monthly and year-end operations of the Accounting/ Finance Department including budget review and analysis.
- Perform the processing of functional and benefits expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed assets depreciation and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries, if necessary.
- Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, employer’s benefit costs, accruals and prepaid expenses.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements, budget performance, and interim grant financial reporting.
- Maintains best fixed asset system, which includes preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger to fixed assets system, and preparation of depreciation schedules for budgeting purposes.
- Assists Chief Financial Officer and Controller in compilation of miscellaneous confidential reports.
- Performs month-end and year-end closing activities as required. Coordinates with Controller for timely closing of fiscal month-end.
- Monitors and analyzes paper and work flows and formulates suggestions for changes leading to more efficient operations.
- Comply with all standard safety practices, safety rules, and all Company rules and policies.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
- All other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will not have any supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess strong organizational abilities with the ability to determine priorities.
- Must have strong Excel skills
- Working knowledge of accounting terminology and GAAP.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as Accounting bulletins and standard operation procedures.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, taxes, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (BA) or equivalent from four-year college; three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
