Volunteer Program Manager
Position Overview: The Volunteer Program Manager (VPM) will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the volunteer program for the Buckeye Trail Association (BTA). This role includes recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers across various positions, working groups, and Chapters. The VPM will also monitor program effectiveness, report volunteer hours, and collaborate with BTA Chapters and partner organizations. The position involves both office-based and outdoor work, with occasional travel to support trail projects and volunteer events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for trail maintenance, construction, protection, promotion, and administration.
- Build strong relationships with BTA Chapters, leaders, and partner organizations.
- Provide support to Chapter and program leaders, ensuring volunteers are equipped with the necessary training and resources.
- Assist with project management and field support for trail projects.
- Maintain volunteer rosters, including Section Supervisors and Trail Adopters, in the BTA database.
- Work with volunteer leaders to ensure proper documentation, recognition, and event logistics.
- Represent the BTA in the community and recruit volunteers through presentations and outreach.
- Develop and implement volunteer coordination plans for events and programs.
- Coordinate corporate sponsor volunteer days and post-volunteer recognition efforts.
- Maintain the volunteer database and develop job descriptions for volunteer roles.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (2 years) in volunteer management or related fields.
- Experience with long-distance hiking trails and outdoor recreation.
- Familiarity with land and resource management practices, including government agencies’ guidelines (e.g., Ohio Department of Natural Resources, National Park Service).
- Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including volunteers, agencies, and landowners.
- Willingness to travel and work outdoors in various conditions.
Additional Skills and Attributes:
- Knowledge of trail management, construction, and outdoor recreation principles.
- Ability to lead meetings, facilitate training, and provide guidance to volunteers.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Working Conditions:

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
