Job Summary

A successful Vice President of Public Engagement is a dynamic fundraiser and compassionate leader who can deliver measurable results through donor cultivation, marketing, and motivation of their team. This individual will have extensive fund-raising, sales and marketing skills, with personal confidence to tap into the uniqueness of each of their team members, bringing out their best to support our mission, core values and organizational ideals. This position has direct responsibility for fundraising, marketing, and private rentals.

Job Responsibilities

Fundraising and Membership

In close collaboration with the President and CEO, lead all efforts to raise funds through government, foundation, corporate, and individual sources to meet and / or exceed annual goals.

Create and execute an annual fundraising plan and coordinating budgets for operational funding, capital funding and special projects. Together with the development team :

  • Identify specific funding sources for each identified initiative in the annual fundraising plan, including sponsorships and grants, and pursue each funding possibility.
  • Manage all aspects of the Capital Campaign.
  • Ensure the Annual Fund and coordinate appeals are successful.
  • Research, write and fulfill all possible grant opportunities.
  • Provide thoughtful and ongoing donor engagement, stewardship and donor recognition.
  • Ensure a thoughtful and successful membership program.
  • Ensure successful management of all fund-raising and community centered events.

Marketing and Communication

Responsible for upholding the brand and culture of the Botanical Gardens. Together with your team, develop and execute all aspects of the marketing plan, marketing and sales materials, graphic design, social media content, ads and communication. In collaboration with the marketing team :

  • Create and maintain a positive and engaging public image of the Botanical Gardens and manage all internal and external communications.
  • Ensure exceptional media coverage with a balance between earned editorial, trade and paid media.
  • Ensure social media accounts, mass emails, Google Adwords and digital outlets are utilized to their fullest potential.
  • Update and implement an annual Marketing Plan ensuring it is weaved into the visitor experience.
  • Review visitor experience feedback regularly to make relevant and thoughtful improvements and collaborate with all departments to improve the overall visitor experience.
  • Private Rentals, Events & Sales

    Foster a client / visitor and sales focused team to ensure the Botanical Gardens is booked to capacity and utilized to its fullest potential. Ensure your team :

  • Provides an exceptional level of customer service.
  • Successfully manages and creates exceptional weddings and private events.
  • Regularly seeks new business and creative ways to book events at the Botanical Gardens and its campus buildings to ensure the Botanical Gardens is booked to capacity.
  • In collaboration with the storytelling team, create and execute a successful and engaging calendar of public and fundraising events.
  • Strategic Vision & Budgeting

  • Ability to think strategically and anticipate future consequences and trends and incorporate them into our current and future operational strategies.
  • In conjunction with the leadership team develop a long-term strategic plan and associated financial projections to uphold the plan.
  • Track business data to inform trends, necessary corrections and future projections for your departments.
  • Work in partnership with the President and CEO and your teams to develop your departmental budgets.
  • Fiscal management of your departmental budgets and monthly budget performance.
  • Identify areas of opportunity to increase revenues and expand outreach.
  • Leadership & Relationship Building

  • Provide thoughtful and compassionate leadership and management of your team by creating a positive, transparent, collaborative and fair work environment.
  • Manage your team by setting clear expectations and goals for team members and provide coaching and counseling regularly. Evaluation of necessary actions needed for individual performance is the Manager's responsibility.
  • Take initiative to ensure your thoughtful compliance with the organizations Mission, Vision, Policies, Procedures, Core Values, Inclusion Code of Conduct and Strategic Plan
  • Individual will be required to work a flexible schedule. Some evenings, weekends and holidays will be required.
  • Education, Skills, Qualifications :

    Education and Experience

    Bachelors or Masters Degree in business, marketing or a related field. Ten years of management experience at a leadership level, extensive fundraising experience, grant management, donor cultivation successes and marketing experience are required.
