As a Procurement Specialist in the solar industry you will play a crucial role in managing the acquisition of all materials, equipment, and services needed for solar projects. Your job is to ensure that everything required for the successful construction and operation of solar energy systems is sourced efficiently, cost-effectively, and on time. You will work closely with the design team to ensure pricing is accurate and up to date. Here’s a breakdown of what you will do:
1. Sourcing Materials and Equipment:
Identify Suppliers: Research and identify suppliers of solar panels, inverters, batteries, racking systems, wiring, and other components necessary for solar installations.
- Evaluate Vendors: Assess the quality, reliability, and price of materials from various vendors. This includes negotiating pricing, warranties, and lead times to ensure that the materials meet project specifications.
- Build Relationships: Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable delivery and favorable terms for procurement.
2. Purchasing and Order Management:
Place Orders: Once the materials and equipment are selected, the Procurement Specialist places orders and manages the purchasing process, ensuring that everything is ordered in the correct quantities and specifications.
- Track Deliveries: Ensure that all materials and equipment are delivered on time and meet the required quality standards.
- Handle Returns/Exchanges: If any materials or equipment are defective or do not meet specifications, the Procurement Specialist coordinates returns or exchanges with the suppliers.
- Coordinate with Project Managers: Work closely with project managers and construction teams to understand their specific needs and ensure that the necessary materials are available when required
- Address Supply Chain Issues: If any supply chain disruptions (e.g., delays, shortages) occur, the Procurement Specialist works to resolve these issues quickly to prevent delays in the project.
3. Compliance and Regulatory Requirements:
- Ensure Compliance: Ensure that all materials and equipment meet industry standards, local regulations, and safety requirements. This is especially important in the solar industry, where quality and safety standards are critical.
- Monitor Certifications: Ensure that suppliers provide necessary certifications for products, like warranties or compliance with environmental standards (e.g., UL certification for solar panels).
4. Inventory Management:
- Track Inventory: Maintain accurate records of inventory levels of materials and components used in solar projects. This helps prevent over-ordering or running out of essential items.
