Program Coordinator for BURC
$56,000 – $60,000
The Buffalo United Resiliency Center (BURC) was created to provide a safe space for families and survivors of the horrific TOPS massacre on 5/14/2022. BURC under the operations of The Buffalo Urban League (BUL). It is devoted to promoting mental and emotional wellbeing by providing opportunities for people to come together, find support, restore the community’s sense of safety and security, and help each other heal. BURC provides a centralized place for victims to have their needs identified and be supported to efficiently access services. BURC proactively supports and responds to victims who often experience reactions to gun violence in response to significant anniversaries or events, events within the community that increase stress, and awareness of the passage of time (graduations, holidays, festivals), and incidents that occur around the world that trigger reactions for victims.
Position Summary:
The Program Coordinator manages a team of Case Workers on a day-to day basis ensuring that BURC activities and assistance provided are aligned with program objectives. The incumbent ensures that the data collection and verifications meet the funder’s specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Supervises a team of Case Workers that provides support both at the site location and community members’ homes.
- Collaborates with other organizations to provide services and programs to the community.
- Ensures activities are appropriately staffed and meet community needs.
- Collaborates with the Program Director to ensure activities are aligned with program objectives and timetables.
- Collaborates with community members and other service providers, and colleagues to plan and support community events.
- Solicits data and metrics from team members and reviews for accuracy.
- Utilizes data for ongoing needs assessments.
- Meets with 1:1 with team members as well the entire team to review planned activities and metrics.
- Provides training and debriefings for staff, community members or other parties as needed.
- Prepares reports, maintains clinical files, participates in training, and provides statistical materials.
- Assures that advocacy, linking, expediting and related activities are carried out, as needed.
- Makes appropriates referrals to other service providers.
- Collaborates and coordinates services with staff, other agencies, and community members.
- Serves as resource person/consultant to other service providers in identifying community members for referral and works cooperatively with other providers to assure linkage of community members with appropriate services.
- Drives BURC’s twelve passenger van or personal vehicle (with mileage reimbursement) for purposes of transporting clients in the community and/or site visits,
- Represents program in the community and networks with other agencies and partners to ensure the needs of community members are met.
- Organizes and attends outreach tabling at community events.
- Works with individuals, families, and groups to provide outreach, emotional support,
individual and group emotional, counseling support, public education, wraparound services, and referrals when needed.
- Provides presentations and facilitates programs to community groups on disaster reactions, coping skills, and stress management.
- Advocates on behalf clients to ensure needed services are obtained.
- Utilizes motivational interviewing techniques to increase likelihood of engagement.
- Develops and distributes educational materials.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree (preferred) in mental health, human services, or related field; and at least 2 years of experience in supervision & leadership in mental health or human services setting or a high school diploma / GED and a minimum of 6 years of experience in supervision & leadership in mental health or human services setting.
- Demonstrated resilience.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people. Team player who can work effectively with peers and other associates.
- Demonstrated pro-active work competencies.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
- Working knowledge of computers and computer software and programs.
- Culturally competent & trauma informed.
- The ability to carry out assignments without direct supervision.
- Any foreign languages spoken, a plus.
- Clean driver’s license, insurance, and daily access to a vehicle.
- Demonstrated work ethic and flexibility.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
