PURPOSE
Tender loads of inbound inventory, and 3rd party outbound, from mill to BFS locations in a fast paced corporate procurement environment. Provides support for comprehensive freight management in the Transportation department and Corporate Supply Chain.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Proactively manages BFS’s cost of inbound and 3rd party outbound freight. Accomplishes by working with key manufacturers, freight suppliers, Corporate Inventory Buyers and Category Directors.
- Responsible for all rail activity to BFS facilities. This includes rail car reporting, demurrage negotiations, and assisting BFS facilities on rail congestion issues.
- Contacts and schedules 3rd party freight carriers to pick up loads (CPU) and deliver to BFS locations.
- Plans load tendering in accordance with established policies and objectives to effect optimal utilization of selected motor carriers and logistics companies.
- Identifies and selects appropriate transportation companies to meet and exceed location requirements for timely delivery of product from vendor to BFS distribution and manufacturing facilities.
- Communicates by various effective means the status of all shipments to the appropriate buyers/managers in Supply Chain and field operations personnel.
- Contacts freight carriers to obtain proof of insurance certification, ensuring appropriate liability and cargo levels.
- Performs analysis and comparison of freight rates to determine the most economical and efficient means to deliver product, based on freight classifications, delivery rates and operating processes.
- Responsible for troubleshooting and recovery from deviations to the pick-up and delivery requirements of each load of material.
- Meets or exceeds departmental KPI’s as assigned by the Manager of Transportation and Logistics.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field
- Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in freight transportation or brokerage; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent communication skill, both verbal and written.
- Strong aptitude to manage a book of business as either transportation broker or freight forwarder.
- 3rd party freight and/or logistics experience
- Rail or intermodal experience preferred
- Good financial acumen.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of transportation operations and practices.
- Knowledge and working experience with one or more TMS systems.
- Experience in either Forest Products or other related distribution business.
- Ability to handle conflict.
- Good presentation skills.
- Excel in fast paced environment
- Must be able to interact and communicate well with teammates and customers
- Ability to meet deadlines within a fast paced work environment.
- Self-starter with the ability to work in a collaborative team based environment.
- High sense of urgency and ownership of book of business.
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
- Excellent negotiation skills. Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail
