Job Summary:
Building African American Minds, Inc. (BAAM) is seeking a responsible and enthusiastic Facilities and Program Support Coordinator with a primary focus on Gymnasium Operations to ensure the safe, clean, and efficient operation of our gymnasium. This role involves supervising participants, maintaining the facility and equipment, assisting with events held in the gymnasium, and providing excellent customer service to our members and visitors. The ideal candidate will be reliable, attentive, and committed to fostering a positive environment for youth development.
Responsibilities:
- Gymnasium Supervision & Membership Management:
- Actively supervise and monitor individuals participating in open gym to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
- Enforce all gymnasium rules and BAAM policies, including guidelines for appropriate footwear, conduct, and sportsmanship.
- Ensure participants treat the facility, equipment, and each other with respect.
- Accurately sign in all open gym participants and verify their active BAAM membership using ID or URL scan cards for admittance.
- Court Setup & Maintenance:
- Ensure the basketball court is properly prepared before and after activities, including adjusting hoops and marking boundaries as needed.
- Regularly sweep or mop the court to maintain a clean and safe playing surface.
- Inspect and maintain basketball equipment (balls, hoops, scoreboards) and report any issues.
- Event Support (Gymnasium Focus):
- Assist with the setup for games, tournaments, practices, and other events within the gymnasium, including placing benches, chairs, and ensuring scoreboards are operational.
- Support the coordination of games by assisting with tasks such as basic timing and scorekeeping (training provided).
- Communicate effectively with coaches, referees, and other staff to facilitate the smooth flow of events in the gymnasium.
- Customer Service & Communication:
- Warmly greet all visitors and provide helpful information regarding gym schedules, rules, and available BAAM services.
- Manage gymnasium use reservations and ensure accurate scheduling of spaces.
- Address any participant or visitor concerns and complaints in a prompt and professional manner.
- Safety & Emergency Response:
- Vigilantly monitor the gymnasium, including utilizing monitoring cameras, to proactively ensure adherence to safety protocols and identify potential incidents.
- Possess or be willing to obtain knowledge of basic First Aid, AED, and CPR procedures to effectively respond to accidents or injuries.
- Provide immediate assistance to injured individuals and follow the BAAM risk management plan, including notifying authorities or emergency medical personnel when necessary.
- General Facility Maintenance (Gymnasium Focus):
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the gymnasium by wiping down equipment, restocking supplies, emptying trash cans, and sweeping/mopping all necessary areas.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of equipment for building rentals or BAAM program events within the gymnasium, as instructed.
Qualifications:
- Responsible, reliable, and punctual.
- Ability to enforce rules and maintain order in a positive manner.
- Basic knowledge of basketball and gymnasium safety.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn basic first aid, AED, and CPR (training may be provided).

- Previous experience in a similar role or working with youth is a plus.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

- 8 hour shift
