Shipping and Recieving Supervisor
SUMMARY:
Maintains shipping operations and workflow by monitoring steps of production and process; monitoring shipping progress, personnel and resources; steward for safety regulations maintains reporting procedures and shift production summaries; ensures operation of equipment by calling for repairs and facilitating maintenance corrections to malfunctions within process; evaluates new equipment and techniques; schedules and assigns shipping personnel to accomplish plan; supervises and coordinates activities of employees engaged in shipping and receiving of products, components, and/or replacement parts and in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manage shipping and/or receiving personnel (hire, train, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action).
2. Oversee incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
3. Supervision of shift employees/shift supervisor- create and oversee an employee training schedule that emphasizes productivity, process knowledge and resource conservation.
4. Review shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
5. Plan work schedules, assigns duties, and evaluates work for accuracy and conformance to policies.
6. Works with management to establish and modify department operational methods and procedures.
7. Ensures that goods are packaged and protected for shipping according to specifications.
8. Determines space requirements and position of shipment in boxcars and trucks and lays out position of shipment.
9. Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states.
10. Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded boxcars and truck doors.
11. Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.
12. Maintains reports, records, and documentation to reflect department activities.
13. Assist in shipping and receiving activities as needed.
14. Analyzes performance of existing shipping and receiving systems, evaluating, and recommending new programs to improve distribution methods and implement cost reductions.
15. Supervision of shift employees/shift supervisor- create and oversee an employee training schedule that emphasizes productivity, process knowledge and resource conservation.
16. Fluency and utilization of Company computer programs- JD Edwards, Shop Floor, Time Force, etc.
17. Charged with monitoring shift supervisor’s input of Timekeeping and Payroll functions
18. Safety – conduction of monthly safety meetings, safety contacts as required, administration and policing of Company PPE policy
19. Enforce safety policies and procedures (both in-house and regulatory) to decrease the potential for employee injuries on the job.
20. Quality- assurance of quality product per ASTM and BMT specs.
21. ISO- responsible for adherence to ISO program, conduction of schedule internal ISO audits as necessary.
22. Administer and enforce Safety and Conduct Rules, determine and discipline infractions of the same per employee handbook and safety rules.
23. Accomplishes warehouse staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures. Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees and developing personal growth opportunities.
24. Manage Rail Picks/loading process to meet standards.
25. Ensure efficient staging of trucks.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Strong interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.
2. Must be able to complete necessary paperwork in a legible and thorough manner.
3. Focused on safety.
4. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
5. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associate degree or equivalent from technical school, or equivalent work experience.
2. 1-2 years related experience and/or training.
3. Basic computer skills in Microsoft (Excel and Word).
