Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Business Development Operations Lead to further drive our environmental and engineering consulting services across the southeast region. This position will work in conjunction with our Director of Business Development, regional business development staff and internal Marketing teams to support the overall company growth, while reporting directly to our Business Development Manager.

This role requires an understanding of energy, mining, manufacturing, municipal, legal, architectural, and construction sectors, the ability to develop innovative solutions, and a proven record in business development and strategic planning. You will be responsible for identifying and securing new clients, facilitating the development of key relationships, and leveraging internal partnerships to create unique, high-value propositions from concept to project initiation. The focus of the business development portion of the position will be to support the growth of BLE's Environmental Due Diligence and Compliance services as well as Codes inspection services across all offices, while still identifying and pursuing opportunities that fit within the company's overall growth and business strategy. Primarily, those business development efforts will be directed towards municipalities and developers.

The operations Lead component of this role, in collaboration with the business Development Manager, will be the development and implementation of a formalized business development plan informed by market research, industry trends, opportunities and potential risks. The initial focus of this strategy will be the development and integration of the CRM (Consential by Unanet) companywide. This includes creating and delivering training programs for BLE staff on business development best practices and CRM utilization.


Minimum Job Requirements

  • Experience or Education - bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in business development and account management, preferably within Environmental/Engineering Consulting or Economic Development.
  • Basic Computer Skills - Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, such as Excel and Word, PowerPoint and the ability to create and email PDFs and photos.
  • CRM Skills - Strong experience with CRM platforms (preferably Unanet, by Cosential) and leading a team to develop and implementing the CRM system companywide.
  • Time Management and Reliability - Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, self-driven and self-motivated, and a proven record of responsible and reliable work. Key skill will also include discerning when and what specialized technical specialist(s) are to be assembled to support a prospective client's need or overall business development initiative.
  • Good Written and Verbal Communication - Ability to communicate effectively with clients, both internal and external.
  • Teamwork Skills - Ability to collaborate as part of multiple project teams across multiple disciplines and offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sales Strategy & Execution: Implement and drive BLE's sales strategy, identifying strategic clients and new avenues for business growth.
  • Business Development: Prospect new sales opportunities through industry knowledge, contacts, trade organizations, and collaboration with internal teams.
  • Client & Relationship Management: Establish and maintain strategic relationships with energy firms, mining companies, manufacturers, municipalities, attorneys, architects, general contractors, developers and strategic trade organizations.
  • CRM & Data-Driven Sales: Utilize CRM platforms (preferably Unanet) for accurate opportunity management, forecasting, and tracking sales performance.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Provide training, mentoring, and guidance to junior business developers, ensuring accountability and enhancing team performance.
  • Technical Solutions & Negotiation: Develop business cases, deliver technical proposals, support negotiations of recurring revenue, and support contract negotiations.
  • Sales Performance & Market Expansion: Drive targeted sales opportunities, improve regional win rates and market share, and scale strategic partnerships while fostering BLE's vision and business ethics.
  • Operational & Administrative Excellence: Maintain business systems, ensure Unanet data-entry compliance, and deliver accurate, timely outputs for exceptional customer satisfaction.
